On our way into the restaurant, there was an employee outside smoking a cigarette, and apparently venting to someone on her cell phone. She ended up being our server. Although pleasant and friendly, she appeared to be intoxicated, constantly repeating herself, slurring her words, and seeming generally disoriented. Her recommendation of the cheese stick appetizers was spot on, but I had to hear way to many times about the fact that these were provolone cheese sticks, not mozzarella. ...OK, I GET IT...we placed our food orders, got the appetizers, which were good, but could have been warmer. Our server disappeared for an extended amount of time, but we were taken care of by several of her coworkers. She eventually reappeared enveloped in a cloud of cigarette smoke (must have been finishing her earlier phone call). The music, much like the decor was crazy loud and unfocused. The food was mediocre at best, the tap list was disappointing (not horrible), the fries were very soggy, my bun was stale, they were out of ice cream.........etc etc. A good concept, but poorly executed. Which is not surprising considering the series of defunct restaurants that have made their way through that location .....Overall, I'd say it's got great potential, but it's going to take some work if they want to be a success.

Had a wonderful time. Everyone was so nice and polite. Our waitress Amber sure made us feel welcome. The food was AMAZING! Can't wait till our next visit!

I have came here for dinner several times since it first opened and enjoyed it very much so until this last time where the waitress forgot our drinks twice and we had bruschetta for an appetizer and it came with chopped up tomatoes with chopped up cilantro on the top and no seasoning or cheese. After an hour our entree finally showed and we both had undercooked chicken on our salad. After complaining the waitress told us that she wasn't suppose to say anything but the cook walked out! Needless to say we won't be back...

After waiting for 2 hours our food finally came out completely over cooked. Medium rare burger was well done. Cheese wasn't melted on another burger. After sending the food back and saying we just wanted our check to leave, we waited another 15 minutes and never had a manager come out to apologize. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to like this place.

We've been to Etropal a number of times. It's always been inconsistent, but now, I have to say, it's ready for Restaurant Impossible. Last night we arrived at 7:00 with a reservation. Our party of 11, 3 couples, 2 babies and 3 kids ranging from 5 to 13, chose Etropal over safer choices because we figured it would be quicker and quieter. We left at 9:00 without having eaten. We're fairly patient folks and none of us remember actually walking out of a restaurant after ordering, waiting and waiting. There was a large group in the upper level (maybe 20 people). But they arrived before us and they still hadn't been served. And they made their reservation a day earlier. I wish I could say that they had a good excuse. They didn't. It was some strange combination of the other large party and the kitchen being slow. But there were only 2 waitresses and a handful of hapless helpers who seemed disoriented and purposeless. The manager/owner didn't even come over until 1.5 hours there. And then he had the weird explanation and wanted to entertain us by showing us the ballroom. Seriously, this place has so much potential. It's a gorgeous old building and should be hopping on a big summer weekend. But it needs professional management help.

Not being familiar with the area, I turned to the advice of a local (my brother) for a suggestion on a local place to meet for dinner. You can't get much more local that this place; the name is "Laporte" spelled backwards. I always like checking out the locally-owned places, but you never know what you're going to get. Fortunately, this place is exactly what I was hoping for: great service, a menu that offered a good variety, and reasonable prices. We began with the fried pickle appetizer. The beer battered spears came out piping hot and cut into thirds, making them almost bite sized. Some places fry their pickles until they become a mushy mess, but these had a nice bite to them. A nice start to the meal. I was told the burgers were really good here, but I went for the chicken pesto sandwich instead. While the sandwich was good, I thought there could have been a little more pesto on in, but it was definitely worth every penny that I paid for it. My brother went with a burger that smelled about as good as it looked. I'm pretty sure he had to get a box to take some of it home. My only issue was with the beer menu. When we were seated, the hostess gave us a beer menu that had handwritten specials. We started to review it and were prepared to make our drink selection when our server came up. We ordered, and were told that the handwritten selections weren't available, and that we should look at the typed portion instead. Confusing.. This place get's added to my "Approved by Jon C" list.

Great place to go for a beer, always a good Three Floyds beer on tap plus a pretty nice selection of other drafts and bottles. Jamming live music on Thursdays!

This was a strange experience. My mom, my sister and I came here for lunch after a little shopping and decided to sit outside. We ordered a round of drinks, and I ordered a specific white wine. About 10 minutes later, the waitress came back to tell us that the wine was out, but didn't bring anyone else's drinks. I ordered another wine, which took another few minutes to come out. My mom ordered an Amstel Light, which was sold out. Once all the drink orders were sorted out, we ordered out food. It did seem to take awhile to come out, but once it did, everyone was quite happy with their choices. I chose the turkey burger sans bun, and it was very good. I got a side of sweet potato tots with it and those were yummy as well. Overall, the experience was lackluster, and even though the food was good, I don't think it overcomes everything else.

I have been here numerous times, the first time it was awesome but every time I came back something was bad but this last time was unbelievably horrible! Our appetizer was disgusting and bland and not what we had ordered but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. We then ordered drinks and the first order our waitress forgot them and when we ordered our second round it took her at least 20 min to bring them and she bright the wrong drinks. We both had just ordered chicken salad for dinner and it took over an hour for her to bring them out (that was after we had finished our appetizer) and when she did the chicken was undercooked. You would think that it would be super busy by the way the waitresses were acting but it wasn't, only a handful of people were there. Needless to say we won't be going back again!

Being a LP native I really enjoy the unique local restaurants. We recently started going to etropla and loved it! The location, the Decour, the atmosphere, and the good food! I must admit the service has always been on the slow side, but the food always excellent! I believe with some restructuring of the management and service, the restaurant would succeed greatly!

We decided to go here after hearing many good things about it, not to mention the menu seemed to have some good options. We were seated immediately (there were only three other tables seated - should have been an indicator). As we were being seated, we quickly ordered the kids chicken fingers (we have always found it easier to get the kids started eating quickly). A couple minutes later when the waitress came back with our drinks, my wife and I ordered our food. Just a few minutes after that, the waitress came back with the kids chicken fingers. First problem, one of the pieces of chicken fingers had some sort of bug fried into it (I thought it was a big fly, my wife thought it was a spider). We showed the waitress. After half apologizing for it, the waitress asked if we wanted another plate made. We inspected the other pieces and declined since there was no way he'd eat it all anyway. Then we waited for our food. And waited, and waited. 40 minutes later, the waitress came out and told us there was a mix up in the kitchen and our sandwiches (yes sandwiches) were coming out "now." After waiting another 10 minutes (at this point my two young children were sitting the same seat for over an hour), we decided to leave. I went and informed the waitress that we couldn't wait anymore and I'd like the check. She again half apologized and went to go get the check. 13 minutes later she brought it to me (23 minutes after our food was coming "now"). $14 for two kids chicken fingers, one of them with a fried bug in it, and 1 iced tea. So to sum it up, we spent about an hour and a half and 14 dollars for bug fried chicken fingers. The manager seemed to know what was going on and only cared about getting back to the table of her friends instead of dealing with it. I was never rude except that I didn't tip. I will never go here again and I am telling everyone I can to stay away - in fact, I was already able to keep one couple away.

Having been there 4 times, I feel like I have a pretty good feel for the place. We were there last Friday night (for the 4th time in six months, there aren't lots of restaurants in LaPorte). Most of the times that we have been there, the food has been good and the service has been passable. Last Friday night was pretty much the same. The service was extremely slow (and, to his credit, we were warned by the owner when we were seated). The waiter was nice and personable but this place literally takes forever to get a drink. We were drinking beer. It shouldn't take 10-15 mins from the time it's ordered for it to appear at your table. The bar was 5 feet away. I really like the menu. Diverse and everything we have had has been good (appetizers and entrees). Highly recommend the burgers, pasta is also good and the shrimp skewer appetizers are also tasty. I would cautiously recommend this place but be prepared to wait if they are busy.

This was our third visit, and our best. The first two, our meals took a little long in coming to the table. This last time, on a Fri. Night, the restaurant was very busy, and our meals arrived in a very timely manner. The server was very good on all our visits. The restaurant is lovely. The only fault I can find is with the amount of wine that is poured. I wonder if it is even 6 oz. and the cost is $7.50. I would just ask for a lower price, or a larger pour, for the good Gauleiters wine. Keep up the great job, and support your local restaurants LaPorte. Mary

Came here to support our local business community. Our friends told us about this restaurant and their experience. Sorry to say our experience was not like theirs. First of all, the only have beer and wine for cocktails. We ordered a salad that was in a cheese bowl. Our friends said that it was supposed to come to you warm but it was cold & hard as a rock. Not a bad salad though. Ordered a turkey club with bacon. OK sandwich...wanted veggies with it but was told that they were out. The wife ordered peek - a - boo chicken sandwich. The chicken was overcooked and dry. They also forgot to put cheese on it. I had the French onion soup...it was ok...nothing special....I think we agreed that the only thing was good was the pickles. Now our server was good and they had a acoustic guitar player making the rounds table to table. Which made it nice to sit through dinner. Sorry to say we probably won't be back and I really wanted to like this place too.

Well, after a few inconsistent meals, I think Etropal may have turned the corner. The French Onion soup was back to our high standards! (for soups, ;) The Siracha Shrimp Skewer was as desired but what really surprised me was the steak. It was a superb NY Strip with mushroom sauce to die for. Complimented with the mashed potatoes and asparagus, it was a wonderful meal! The Blackened Trout was a decent attempt at braised fish and was definitely palatable! Please come out and try the new and improved Etropal!

The name and decoration of this restaurant were kind of intimidating to me, as I was only looking for a sandwich for lunch. The menu has burgers, sandwiches, salads and entrees, covering a whole range of options. The food is not a fine dining type of meal, more casual or sports bar style (and there are TVs on the bar side). I came for an early lunch on a Sunday and was one of two tables seated just before noon. We sat in the bar side of the restaurant. The bar itself was nice looking and large windows let in lots of light from outside. The beer selection is pretty nice and there were appealing appetizers. After some deliberation I decided on a chicken caesar wrap with sweet potato bites. The bites were quite nice and wrap was refreshing. Some earlier reviews complained about waiting too long for their food. I didn't have a long wait, so the kitchen may have improved their efficiency based on feedback. By the time I left, a little before 1:00, there were 6 or so other parties that had arrived and been seated. There are advertisements for live entertainment on some nights that seem worth checking out as well. I recommend trying Etropal for a lunch or dinner in downtown La Porte.

Where should I begin? Our dinner consisted of a simple pasta dish, and a lamb burger. We arrived at 6:00 pm, ordered by 6:10, and by 7:10 pm we had no food, and decided to leave. Our food ended up being boxed up to go. The manager took off 50% of the bill because of the inconvenience. However, if I wouldn't have said anything I would have been stuck with the entire bill. There were multiple patrons that were upset because of the wait time. Food is well under par, and obviously, unless your willing to wait at least an hour for your food this place is not for you. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. Go to Enzo's instead!

When we first looked at Etropal's menu, we were pleasantly surprised. (Although bring your magnifying glass to read it.) Lots of burger choices, sides and the prices weren't too outrageous for our working-class town. Upon entering, the ambiance isn't too bad. The bar area looked pretty hip but they only had pub tables to sit at so we opted to sit in the restaurant. The decor is New Orleans inspired but a little dark for my taste. They have an upper balcony you can sit at but we decided to keep our feet on the ground. I wish the music was a little nondescript but it seemed to be new age and a little loud. Kind of hard to hear. The waitress took our order and 45 minutes later, it finally arrived. The restaurant wasn't' packed so I don't know why it took so long. I ordered the Swiss Mushroom burger with onions and Parmesan risotto for my side. The burger looked good upon arrival but the bread tasted kind of stale and it was missing the Swiss cheese. Plus the portobello mushrooms tasted like they were marinated in vinegar. My risotto side was very disappointing and had the consistency of wall paper paste and tasted just as bad. I did not care for my meal. My husband ordered the Beer Battered Fish and he really liked his sandwich. He ordered steak cut fries and he said they were pretty good but he had a lot of small ends in his order. Overall I wish the owner wouldn't call this a fine dining restaurant/lounge and just give us a good place for comfort food and hip atmosphere. Skip the Dinner Theater and support live music in the bar if he wants entertainment.

Lets start with the service, the service was excellent, the food on the other hand was up and down, the onion rings were delicious, the BBQ chicken on flat bread was ok, but could have been better, the chicken was a little under seasoned and the BBQ sauce was not cooked on but poured on, as for the French fries, I ordered the garlic and parmesan fries, and I liked them but I am not sure they are for everyone, they were very well done, they reminded me of that one dark brown almost burnt potato chip you get in every bag of chips. I will definitely give them another try, the onion rings alone are worth another trip but next time I will try one of their burgers. If you're over 40 you might want to bring your reading glasses a flashlight to read the menu.

My first visit. St. Patty's Day. We sat on the balcony and it was nice, quiet, good view of the downstairs. Bathrooms were clean and pretty too. I ordered the Reuben and it was THE BEST REUBEN EVER!!!! My husband ordered the Angus burger on a pretzel roll...he said it was good but the burger patty was TINY, like 2 in by 2 in. tiny. Sweet potato bites were good, fries overcooked. We had good service although we felt bad the waitress had to go up 20 steep steps to get to our table and play balancing act but she never complained. :) Will def go there again!

Slow service. Decent beer selection. Burger (peppercorn bacon) was good. Don't get sourdough. Triple chocolate mousse was not so good.
